The Book of Life: Am I In It—and Who Decides? / Great Quotes / I'd Like to Have an Argument, Please

Good morning from Italy!

We’re just finishing up our family vacation (Laglio and Florence)—and are about to fly back to our home airport (Manchester). We hope you like the photos. On Sunday we had the chance to visit brothers and sisters in Milan, where I preached the Word. About 100 in the audience, lots of young people, seekers, and even a fair few friends from our earlier years. Truly encouraging.

In this week’s bulletin: Conversation 16 (on the Book of Life), a guest piece, “I’d Like to Have an Argument,” and even more words of wisdom in our Quotations series.

Lake Como x3; River Arno; Duomo, Firenze; Ponte Vecchio +2; Genoa x2; Saul’s madness; a saint turns his back on the proud, serves the poor; supplicant prays to Jerome; further works from Florence’s Accademia Gallery, including Michelangelo’s David (more modest than usual in this newsletter shot!)

I'D LIKE TO HAVE AN ARGUMENT, PLEASE (Koukl)

If this title reminds you of an old Monty Python sketch, you’re not entirely mistaken. But it’s actually an excellent piece of Christian apologetics from Greg Koukl. Click HERE.

THE BOOK OF LIFE: AM I IN IT?—WHO DECIDES?

What right do others have to decide whether or not we are authentic Christians? Within the family of faith, whom may we fellowship? (And what is fellowship, anyway?)

Click the boxed-in section above for the entire Conversations series. Or click and scroll all the way down for no. 16 (our latest).

GREAT QUOTES

  • The heart cannot rejoice in what the mind rejects as false. — C. S. Lewis

  • The mind stretched by a new idea never returns to its original dimensions. — Ralph Waldo Emerson.

  • Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people. —Eleanor Roosevelt

UPCOMING

Next week we’ll be in the small but proud country of Wales. While there Vicki and I will interview a dear European friend who currently resides in Asia—for our next newsletter.

We’ll also be preparing for the next AIM UK/Ireland session (8 June), on Evidences & Evangelism, as well as for the Antioch Seminar (17-24 June) and Istanbul pre-tour (14-17 June).

Thanks for all your prayers and support!
Douglas
