Is My Kid LGBTQI+ ? / Single is Good (?) / Anger in the Home

AIM Family Life

Course: Jan 13 - Feb 17, 2024.
Saturday sessions (ZOOM):
13 January and 3 February.

Jan 13, 9:30-1:00 & Feb 3, 10-11 ET

Some people want to marry, others do not. Have we been taught—or has it been implied—that it’s either unfortunate or perhaps against God’s will to remain single? Jesus and Paul thought otherwise (Matt 19:10-11; 1 Cor 7:7). So why are singles teased, and why is singleness so often stigmatized? Our first class, taught insightfully and compassionately by Joseph Harris (U.S.), deals with misconceptions about singleness, celibacy, and more.

As parents, are we sometimes driven by anger and frustration? Do we tend to over-react (James 1:19-20), embittering our sons and daughters (Eph 6:4)? How does expressed (or suppressed) anger affect families, and congregations? Douglas Jacoby (U.K.) will address the subject forthrightly in the second class of the day.

Many of our children believe in God, but are deeply bothered that their church is “homophobic.” Or maybe they’re reconsidering their “gender,” or buying in to the thinking of the world on sexuality. Lecturing and moralizing can alienate them. How can we better listen? How do we talk about these topics with our children—respectfully—when it feels so much is at stake? Guy Hammond (Canada) will share from his extensive experience in the final class of the day.

We believe that this weekend’s practical program, part of the AIM Family Life series, will meet many needs—especially for parents. Note: you may choose your classes, attend all three, or join the entire course [7 weeks].
